“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change. “ ~ Carl Rogers
Humanistic Existential therapy is a way of working that sees you not just as a set of problems, but as a whole person who is trying to make sense of life. It starts with the idea that being human brings both possibilities, challenges and limits. We all have the ability to choose, grow, and create meaning and at the same time, life can feel uncertain, overwhelming, or painful.
This kind of therapy gives you space to explore your experiences, your choices, and what truly matters to you, in a safe and supportive relationship. It allows space to discuss all those things that we are told to never discuss such as religion or beliefs, death or dying, meaning and purpose and what is this life all about anyway.
Existential therapy talks about the “givens of existence” which are basic truths we all face simply by being alive. These aren’t problems to solve, but realities we each find our own way of living with:
Mortality: Knowing that life is limited can stir fear, but it can also remind us to live in ways that feel meaningful.
Freedom & Responsibility: We have freedom to make choices, and with that comes responsibility for how we shape our lives. This can feel exciting, but also heavy at times.
Isolation: Even in close relationships, there’s a part of us that is always separate. This can bring loneliness, but also the chance to discover our individuality.
Meaning: Life doesn’t come with ready-made meaning. Each of us has the challenge and the opportunity to create our own sense of purpose.
Anxiety: Anxiety is seen not only as something that could be distressing, but also as a natural response to being human. When we face life’s uncertainties and choices, it’s normal to feel anxious and exploring this can help us live more freely rather than be held back by fear.
Humanistic Existential therapy is about meeting you as an unique individual, not as a problem. It’s a chance to look honestly at life’s challenges and to explore what really matters to you, and to discover new ways of living with clarity, freedom, and meaning.
